Container Chain for Empty Container Parks - Melbourne
After extensive consultation between the Melbourne Empty Container Parks and stakeholders and after referring matters to the ACCC to satisfy possible industry concerns it has been announce that the introduction of a truck notification system ”Container Chain” will be implemented with effect on September 8, 2011.
It will be a condition of entry to the container parks for the collection of empty containers for export or the de-hire of empty containers from import that all container returns and pick-ups be pre-notified through the website www.containerchain.com from this date. The Container Chain system is effectively a time slot to schedule lifting activity.
The Container Chain Fee has been set at $10.00 per container however there may be slight variations in the charge between the empty container parks.
In addition to the above Container Chain Fee levied by the container parks it is likely that the transport companies will apply an administration fee to manage the process however to date this has not been formalised. Any further information will be communicated as it comes to hand.
China and Hong Kong Holidays
With the upcoming holidays in China and Hong Kong it is prudent to make sure your suppliers book early and that there will be pressure on road transport, China Customs, equipment availability and space on vessels during this period (especially the National Day Golden Week). Any delays could lead to shipments missing their sailing during the busy lead up to the holidays.
Please also remind your shippers to despatch documents in advance or complete “Express Releases” in advance to avoid any delay in clearance and delivery during the same time. It will be almost impossible for you to communicate with your suppliers regarding any documentation problems for vessels arriving during the holiday period.

NOTE: Maximum Gross Allowable Cargo Weight includes product plus all packaging pallets and any blocking, bracing, and dunnage materials. Tri-axle chassis are available on a limited basis for 20’ containers only.
In the event, due to cargo weight, carrier is required to utilize a tri-axle chassis to legally transport the container, the cargo shall be assessed cost of $250 per container for the triaxel chassis plus additional administrative charge of $150 per container.
The above is proposed as a general guideline only to ensure lawful and safe transport practices. This table in no way constitutes a warranty as to the safe loading or carriage of a particular container. The use of these guidelines does not in any way eliminate the obligation of the shipper, consignee, motor carrier or other user to ensure that a particular load meets local, state or federal road weight limits and is otherwise safe and roadworthy for transport within the US.
